Job Description
    The NextGen Pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church is responsible for providing leadership in planning, conducting, and evaluating a Christ-centered ministry from cradle through college/career age group.
 
                 Salary: The NextGen Pastor’s salary will be based on education and experience
                     within a range of 40k-55k yearly; subject to a church vote. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrated through regular prayer, Bible study, and worship attendance.
  • Fulfill the character qualifications as taught in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. Ordained or be willing to be ordained as a Pastor.
  • Passionate about reaching children, youth, college/career and parents for Jesus Christ.
  • A degree in church-related ministry from a conservative seminary.
  • Experience in children’s, youth or college/career ministry.
  • Ability to teach Scripture in a manner that is biblically sound and culturally relevant.
  • Have strong gift of leadership and proven experience developing leaders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use email and social media to connect and promote ministry.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage, mobilize and motivate people.
  • This person should have a heart for gospel-focused, family-based ministry with the goal of leading children, youth, college/career, and parents toward spiritual maturity.
  • Able to fully commit to the mission, vision, and values of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church
  • A healthy family life. If married, the spouse must be a believer and supportive of the ministry.

  • Commitment to the unity of the staff team and the church.

 

Big Picture Responsibilities:

  • Gives overall leadership direction to Children’s, Youth, and College/Career Ministries to ensure strong biblical teaching and authentic worship.
  • Develops and empowers staff and lay leaders.
  • Develops and oversees policies and procedures for an effective children’s, youth, and college/career ministry.
  • Manages and/or provides oversight of administrative needs of Children’s, Youth, and College/Career Ministries with support of each elected coordinator of these groups

(i.e., budget and events calendars, etc.).

  • Ensures smooth transition for students entering college/career life from middle school from the children’s ministry.
  • Provides shepherding, counsel, and care to students and their families.
  • Participates in all groups.
  • Participates in other Pastoral duties: participates and serves at weekend services in pastoral/counselor capacity; conducts hospital visits, funerals and weddings, as needed.

 

Children’s Ministry:

  • Develop and implement a discipleship strategy that helps children (Birth to Preschool through Grade 5) and parents connect with Jesus and grow spiritually.
  • Lead the Children’s Ministry Team to plan and execute ministry.
  • Recruit and develop a ministry team of effective volunteers that strive for excellence in

children’s discipleship.

  • Build a team that will help all kinds of children and families in our community experience the love of Jesus and learns to follow Him.
  • Champion fresh and new ideas to engage and train parents in avenues of family worship.
  • Plan and participate in regular and special events that involve children’s ministry.
  • Oversee publicity with the church, and communication of children’s ministry to parents, and church family, and possibly local schools.

 

Youth Ministry:

  • Develop and implement a discipleship strategy that helps youth (6th through 12th grade) and parents connect with Jesus and grow spiritually.
  • Recruit and develop a ministry team to effectively minister to students. This includes a

significant level of leadership development.

  • Develop and provide oversight to a strategy for identifying the specific needs of both middle school and high school students and how Youth Ministries can best meet these needs.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to ensure that Youth Ministries is effectively reaching out and impacting their community, schools, and families.
  • Recruit and develop a ministry team of effective volunteers that strives for excellence in youth discipleship.
  • Develop intentional events designed to build community, reach new youth, and develop students spiritually.
  • Lead the teaching ministry and is an effective teacher of biblical truth within the Youth Ministries community.
  • Help develop/facilitate a cohesive ministry pipeline from youth to young adult.
  • Actively seek to be a bridge to young adults for the church.

 

College/Career Ministry:

  • Develop and implement a discipleship strategy that helps young adults (College/Career age 19-25) and parents connect with Jesus and grow spiritually.
  • Recruit and develop a ministry team to effectively minister to College/Career. This includes a significant level of leadership development.
  • Develop and provide oversight to a strategy for identifying the specific needs of both college students, careers, and how College/Career Ministries can best meet these needs.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to ensure that College/Career Ministries is effectively reaching out and impacting their community, schools, and families.
  • Recruit and develop a college/career ministry team of effective volunteers that strives for excellence in youth discipleship.
  • Develop intentional events designed to build community, reach new young adults, and develop students spiritually.
  • Lead the teaching ministry and is an effective teacher of biblical truth within the College/Career Ministries community.
  • Help develop/facilitate a cohesive ministry pipeline from youth to young adult.
  • Actively seek to be a bridge to young adults for the church.

 

Practical Duties and Responsibilities:

    Teaching and Leading:

  • Oversee/lead weekly mid-week gathering
  • Oversee/lead Sunday morning class
  • Oversee/lead student discipleship groups
  • Student leadership development
  • Develop an adult volunteer leadership team

   Service and Mission:

  • Oversee various service projects
  • Oversee yearly mission trip
  • Oversee winter and summer camps

   Miscellaneous:

  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Regular attendee of deacon board
  • Meet regularly with pastoral staff
  • Other duties as assigned
