MT. CARMEL’S REOPENING PLAN

PHASE 1

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 3, 2020

Beginning this Sunday, besides Phase 1 and opening the two main sanctuary restrooms for usage:

We will extend the limit of the 11 AM WORSHIP ATTENDANCE TO 75 TOTAL PEOPLE. We may add more worship services if reservations fill up fast.

Also, WE WILL OPEN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL FOR ONLY MINISTRIES (Bible study, prayer, and service, not parties, showers, or other private reservations) with these conditions and guidelines:

  • You must reserve your ministry meeting time slot in advance by registering online, through text, or by calling the church office. You will receive further instructions when the reservation form is provided.
  • You must practice social distancing. All attendees must maintain six feet of space.
  • Prop open doors to the fellowship hall to avoid contact with handles.
  • Greet by waving instead of shaking hands or hugging.
  • Ministry leaders must use disinfectant to sanitize all areas in the fellowship hall.
  • Only one person occupies the restroom at a time. Restrooms must be cleaned before and after usage.
  • Ministry leaders may provide materials, but all materials and pens must be taken home.
  • Entrances to the stairwells leading to upstairs will be locked.
  • Please fellowship outside as much as possible.
CONDITIONS FOR ATTENDING MINISTRY MEETINGS IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL
  • If you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19, you should not attend.
  • If you are elderly, have pre-existing medical conditions, or are medically fragile, you should not attend because of greater severity of illness if infected.

Restrooms
  • We want to open the two main sanctuary restrooms for usage with the following conditions and guidelines:
  • We need two volunteers for each service to serve as restroom monitors. These volunteers will remain seated throughout the service in the foyer to ensure that only one person occupies the restroom at a time. Restroom monitors will clean the restrooms between services and at the end of the last service.
  • You can volunteer to be a restroom monitor here: www.mtcarmeldemorest.com/serve
  • Disinfectants are stationed in the restrooms. After you use the restroom, you are responsible for using the disinfectant to sanitize all areas in the restroom that you have touched. Signs are posted in the restrooms to remind you about washing hands and cleaning appropriate guidelines.

Children’s Area

  • The children’s area will be open for parents of children under 1-year-old for changing diapers and feeding. The children’s area will not be staffed with volunteers. This is simply an area where parents with children under 1-year-old may take their children during service.
  • Disinfectants are stationed in the children’s area. Parents are responsible for using the disinfectant to sanitize all areas that they and their children have touched.

Overarching Strategy

  • We will limit worship attendance 75 total people per service, including staff leaders, greeters, and the audio-visual ministry team. We will not have choir.
  • You must reserve your church service spot and specify which date you plan to attend by registering online or through text or by calling the church office. You must receive confirmation before attending.
  • We may add more worship services if reservations fill up fast.
  • You can reserve your spot by click here: Reopen.Church
  • You can also reserve your spot by texting RSVP to 706-525-5351.

  • Sit where we place bulletins. Bulletins placed on pews will mark where attendees may sit. We will space them out every six feet using every other row. We will keep families together.
  • There will be no hymnals, pins, or Bibles in the backs of the pews. Staff will print Scripture and lyrics and insert them into the bulletin. Please bring a pen and take all bulletins, inserts, and pens home with you. Do not leave them on the pews.
  • We will open only the two main sanctuary entrances and two sanctuary emergency exits around the top side of the building. We will block off all other entrances, hallways, and rooms.
  • Greeters will prop open doors to the church to avoid contact with handles.
  • When you arrive, immediately enter the sanctuary and be seated at a bulletin.
  • When we dismiss, attendees, starting at the closest exit, should immediately leave the building.
  • Livestream online services will continue.

Conditions for Attending Worship Service

  • If you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19, you should not attend but join us online.
  • If you are elderly, have pre-existing medical conditions, or are medically fragile, you should not attend because of greater severity of illness if infected.
  • Parents do not bring kids with even minor symptoms. Children may have a mild illness but could it transmit to adults. Children must sit with their parents or guardians. We will not provide a nursery and children’s church.

Worship Practices

  • Greet by waving instead of shaking hands or hugging.
  • Hand sanitizer, mask, and gloves will be available. You may wear your own masks, but you may not wear your own gloves. You must use the gloves we provide for you. Children two years of age and under should not wear a mask or face coverings.
  • Give by placing financial contributions in the offering boxes placed at entrances and exits, mailing them to the church, or using our website or mobile app.

Sunday School

  • We ask Sunday school teachers to use an online platform for small group interaction and prayer. Contact the church office for help.
We need several people to serve in volunteer positions. You can read position descriptions here and sign up online at this link.
